Celebrating the art & science of Goalkeeping in Football

Introducing the Goalkeepers Premier League (G.P.L) Season 2026 (Jan–July 2026) & Open Trial Tournaments.

What the league gives keepers

More than a league. A community and a career pathway.

The G.P.L is more than a league; it is a community and a career pathway. We are dedicated to elevating goalkeepers by providing a stage, a standard, and a network.

Technical skills

Sharpening shot-stopping, distribution, and positioning through repetitive, high-intensity matches.

Tactical intelligence

The rules and setter involvement encourage quick decision-making and strategic play, enhancing game intelligence.

Psychological resilience

Competing in direct duels builds mental toughness, confidence, and the ability to perform under pressure.

01

A platform for recognition and visibility

The G.P.L places goalkeepers at the forefront, offering a stage to demonstrate their abilities to coaches, scouts, and a growing fanbase. Matches are filmed and shared to maximize exposure and open pathways to higher-level opportunities.

02

A supportive goalkeeper community

The G.P.L fosters a dedicated network for mentorship, camaraderie, and shared learning. We connect goalkeepers of all levels, reducing the isolation often felt in the role and creating a powerful support system through workshops and social events.

03

Structured league competition

Goalkeepers' Premier League runs for six months, with matches taking place every Saturday from 3 pm–6 pm. These are league-based matches with the first 10 goalkeepers in each category qualifying for the Ultimate UK Goalkeepers National Championship (UUK.GONAC).

04

Inclusive divisions

The league accommodates varying skill levels with divisions for amateur, youth, and semi-pro goalkeepers, ensuring competitive balance for all.

About

Goalkeepers Premier League & Open Trial Tournaments.

Goalkeepers Premier League (G.P.L) is a pioneering initiative designed to revolutionize the recognition and development of football goalkeepers across the globe. As the first dedicated competitive platform for goalkeepers, it aims to spotlight the unique skills, athleticism, and strategic importance of goalkeepers who are often underrepresented in traditional football matches. This innovative league features a dynamic, engaging, and inclusive competition that celebrates the art of goalkeeping while fostering technical skills, psychological maturity, physical match development, and competitive spirit.

The G.P.L is structured to provide goalkeepers of all ages and skill levels, from amateur to semi-professional, with a stage to showcase their abilities in a structured, games and season-long format. By integrating unique gameplay elements, such as designated zones and strategic roles for setters, the G.P.L creates a thrilling spectator experience and a challenging environment for participants, at the same time creating a pathway for goalkeepers from grassroots to professional clubs.

The concept has proved itself. In two Open Goalkeepers Trial Tournaments (4th October & 1st November 2025 in West Yorkshire), 6 goalkeepers have been scouted to professional tier-one football clubs. All goalkeepers participating in G.P.L Open Trial Tournaments receive medals, while 1st and 2nd positions win a trophy each.

Two formats

MLS Goalkeepers War Championship and G.P.L.

MLS Pro Goalie Wars

90-second 1v1 rounds

  • A pure 1v1 duel. Two goalkeepers face each other in short, 90-second rounds.
  • The only aim is to score on the opponent while defending your own goal, through throws, kicks, or drop-kicks.
  • No additional players and no structured teamwork.
  • A split pitch. Keepers stay on their own side, with no rebound zone and no assistant role.

Goalkeepers Premier League

A team game for keepers

  • Two setters per match, one with each goalkeeper, creating a 3v3 dynamic.
  • Setters defend, retrieve balls, play rebounds from the central zone, and take corners.
  • Pressure arrives every 5 seconds once a goalkeeper is in contact with the ball.
  • No three consecutive shots, so setters have to be used.
  • A three-zone pitch: two goalkeeper zones and a central rebound/setter zone.
  • 14 minutes each half, with a two-minute break.

Grassroot Football Goalkeepers' Mentorship Initiative {GFGM}

The mental side of the position, taught properly.

The Grassroot Football Goalkeepers Mentorship (GFGM) programme is a first-of-its-kind educational initiative designed to address the psychological and mental development of grassroots football goalkeepers. While technical and physical training are well established within grassroots football, the mental demands of goalkeeping — confidence, resilience, decision-making, emotional control, and leadership — remain largely unsupported in a structured and age-appropriate manner. GFGM aims to fill this gap by delivering classroom-based mentorship sessions in partnership with grassroots clubs, leagues, and County FAs. The programme supports young goalkeepers not only as players, but as developing individuals, aligning closely with The FA’s values around player welfare, retention, and holistic development.

Identified development gap

  1. 01 Goalkeeping is the most psychologically demanding position on the pitch. Young goalkeepers are often judged harshly on mistakes.
  2. 02 Confidence loss leads to performance decline and dropout.
  3. 03 Volunteer coaches lack formal tools to address goalkeeper mentality.
  4. 04 Currently, no structured goalkeeper-specific mental mentorship programme exists under the County FA framework.

Programme objectives

  1. 01 Improve mental maturity of grassroots goalkeepers.
  2. 02 Build confidence and self-belief.
  3. 03 Develop resilience after mistakes.
  4. 04 Improve communication and leadership skills.
  5. 05 Support emotional regulation on matchdays.
  6. 06 Reduce dropout rates among goalkeepers.

Delivery

  • Classroom-based educational sessions.
  • Small group delivery, age-appropriate.
  • A non-physical, discussion-led environment.
